Creative ruts and how I embrace them
For me, creative ruts happen when I am overworked or when I come down from something exciting that has happened in my life. It also happens when I’ve been doing the same things in my life over and over with no change in scenery. We ebb and flow, our energy rises and falls and there’s a balance that needs to happen for one or the other feelings and states to exist.
Your photographer
For those new here, I'm Jamie. I've been a professional photographer for 13 years now. My career started after graduating from Film School here in Vancouver.
My 2023 Gear
I remember when I bought my Canon 5Diii. It was the first time I was able to afford this upgrade to a full-frame DSLR from my Canon 7D that my dad had helped me purchase when I was starting out in my career. At the time I did not have enough credit and my bank only allowed me something like $500 to spend on my debit card (It was that long ago!). I ended up having to withdraw cash to purchase it. So there I was, walking across the street from the bank to the camera store with $5000 cash in my pocket to buy my first camera on my own.
Welcome 2023
Every year, I like to give myself a theme instead of a resolution. When the rules are too rigid and goals set far too high, it’s hard to keep at it, especially when things start to speed up and get busy in the middle to later parts of the year.
