Crimson Eco Garden + Local Eats

Part 1

When I chatted with Sarah about doing brand photos for her business, I knew this was a shoot that was right down my alley. Crimson Eco Garden & Local Eats offers services workshops and coaching in gardening and food preparation & preservation. Growing my own food and learning to preserve is something I’ve been wanting to learn for a while. But the struggle many of us have is that we live in small spaces such as condos in the city. But there is so much you can do with the small amount of space we do have.

Because gardening and growing take time, we split Sarah’s brand session into 2 parts, the first to cover seeding and food preservation. And the second to cover gardening upkeep and harvesting. We did the first half of her session at her apartment where she showed me how she would typically get her season going.

We photographed her garden prep, transplanting, food dehydration, pickling and canning.

Part 2

We documented her process at one of her client’s properties where she was helping with plant care. It was a small property but so much was being grown in the bit of space that they had. Sarah showed me how she fertilized, harvested, pruned, and helped ensure the garden was healthy.

We kept shots as organic as possible and as she showed me around the property, we stopped to capture each key scenario. This was a summer day so as we progressed through the shoot, the sun got softer as we got close to golden hour.

Connecting with Sarah throughout this process was great and something so special about each session was that I got to meet both her fur babies. At session one, her cat Daisy made an appearance and I’m really glad that she did because not long after our session, she, unfortunately, passed away. I’m glad to have gotten photos for Sarah of Daisy while she was still around. At session 2, Sarah brought her new fur baby, Rio. Rio at the time had just been adopted so was a bit shy but brave enough for me to catch a few photos!

Why Brand Photography?

REAL LIFE
Visuals are so important when communicating who you are, what you do, and how you can help your client. Photography offers a real and relatable way to share information. Consumers are able to put themselves in your shoes or imagine how a service or product can help them.

APPROACH
My approach to brand photography is personal. I get to know who you are and how I can best bring out your personality and show what you do in the best way possible. I love capturing with a natural light aesthetic as I feel this makes the image more relatable.

VARIETY
Brand packages include portraits that can be used for your website and social media. It also comes with images to accompany copy and text on your website. Pair those same images on newsletters and blog posts to help keep content interesting, updated and relevant.

I ask that clients bring multiple wardrobe options to change into so that images can be maximized across a longer period of time. This gives you a good mix of images that look different from each other and can be used for different posts, prolonging the use of your images.

I actually hired Sarah to help me out. She came out to my place and took a look at our patio and gave me a set of instructions for plant placement and upkeep. That year I managed to grow fruits and veggies I’ve never grown before: beans, cabbage, cucumber, jalapenos and more.

This is my patio and the year my garden saw the most yield with Sarah’s help. Something I’ve been into over the last few years has been learning how to grow food with the little bit of patio space that we have while living in the city. It’s been a slow process but each year I take notes about what went well and what changes I need to make for the next season.
